Your rights at RainbowYOUTH

Whenever you attend a RainbowYOUTH event or space, e.g. a group, the RY drop-in centre, an education session or another event, there are some basic rights you can expect:

• You will be treated with respect by everyone in attendance.
• Your preferred name and pronouns will be used.
• You can expect to have an opportunity to speak and share your opinion.
• The space will be alcohol, smoke and drug free.
• You will be given the opportunity to participate in and contribute to RainbowYOUTH.
• You will have access to a gender neutral bathroom and gender neutral changing facilities.
• Representatives of RainbowYOUTH* will do their best to support you.
• Concerns you have about RainbowYOUTH will be taken seriously and dealt with professionally following RainbowYOUTH’s Complaints Policy and Procedure.
• Your details and anything given/said to a representative of RainbowYOUTH will remain confidential, unless you specifically give permission for it to be shared, or unless your safety or the safety of others is compromised.
• You will not be discriminated against on the basis of sexuality, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, religion, relationship(s), political belief or affiliation, profession, level of physical and/or mental ability, socioeconomic status or other reasons.
• You will have access to information and/or explanations in regards to decisions made at RainbowYOUTH that affect you personally.
• You will be given sufficient training and resources for any job/task we ask you to undertake at RainbowYOUTH, and sufficient notice of the dates associated with this job.

RainbowYOUTH’s rights

When RainbowYOUTH has a space or event that is open to its members and/or the public, (e.g. a group, the RY drop-in centre, an education session or an event), there are rights that we can exercise in order to maintain the values and safety of our organisation, and those of others:

• We expect all people attending or participating to:
  • Follow standard New Zealand law, and/or any relevant laws/rules of the location/venue we are in.
  • Practise respect for others, including but not limited to, their names, pronouns, associations, and/or opinions.
  • Demonstrate respect for RainbowYOUTH as an organisation, our reputation, facilities, policy, processes and representatives.
  • Follow any reasonable direct request from a RainbowYOUTH representative.
• We will ask people to leave if they can not meet the above expectations.
• We will take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of RainbowYOUTH’s representatives and members.
• As an organisation, we prioritise the use of our limited resources, based on a combination of level of need and fairness to all members.
• We may refer individuals/groups on to other appropriate support organisations where we are not able to meet the needs of the individual/group.

*A Representative of RainbowYOUTH is defined as staff, group facilitators, board members and other volunteers who are acting in a formal capacity for the organisation.
